How to book a museum or an exhibition in Rome

Every year the annual week of culture - Settimana della Cultura -  organized by the ministry for culture takes place in Italy and of course in Rome also for our guests choosing an holiday apartment as favourite accommodation in the city. During the event all state-run museums, galleries, monuments and archaeological sites across the country are open to the public free of charge and many exhibitions, performances, guided tours in Rome and other initiatives have also been organised for tourists visiting Rome in those days. For a full list of events by italian region it is possible to check the website of Ministero dei Beni Culturali.

Just to give some examples, during this period  in the centre of Rome it is possible to visit for free museums and galleries such as the Capitoline Museums, Trajan’s Markets and the Ara Pacis Museum that are also taking part in the initiative. For a full list of participating sites see the website Musei del Comune di Roma - Rome Museums and Exhibitions. Settimana delle Cultura is usually scheduled in between March and April and may vary every year. In 2010 it was scheduled during the week 17-25 April. Notwithstanding museums are free there are several exhibitions that is more convenient or mandatory to book in advance.

An important note: groups over 12 people can not book on line. You can check prices and either get further information about tickets/pricing policies here on the relevant page dedicated to tickets and booking for Capitoline Museums.

2- Ara Pacis: It can now be seen in a new Museum recently designed by American Architect Richard Meier and opened in 2006. Also in this case is possible to directly book a visit at Ara Pacis on-line.

3- Mercati di Traiano: It represents the first Museum of ancient architecture. Click here to book on-line tickets for Mercati di Traiano in Rome.
